Click here for a history of Becket Woods
Becket Woods is for the individual who cares about nature, clear, clean air and the peaceful solitude of forestlands. Here you’ll find no community center with weekend dances, no “Olympic-size” swimming pool, no programmed activities. At Becket Woods you’ll find seclusion – a private place to enjoy yourself and your family. A place to think! Becket Woods, in the Berkshire Hills is a magnificent 890-acre community where the natural state of the land has been preserved. Ninety-four of these acres have been set aside for community use, including natural ponds for fishing, swimming, paddle boating, canoeing, kayaking and skating. There is also an 8.3acre pond with a 1,000-foot beaver dam left in its natural state. Modern tennis courts are on the property. A basketball court too. The community lands offer more than four miles of hiking, snowshoeing, x-country skiing, and horseback riding trails most of which are over 200 years old. Within this natural preserve of Becket Woods there are 163 four to nine acre building lots spotted about the woodlands. While all of the lots are individually owned there are always some which become available from time to time. To date (2004) seventy-six lot owners have built homes with others in some stage of planning or construction. Most of these are vacation-second homes with a dozen or so year round permanent residents. Only a handful of homes may be seen as you drive about the community, as many are deep into the woods on long driveways. Some sites have ponds, streams, old stonewalls, mountain views or meadow areas. Becket Woods is in the Town of Becket, Berkshire County, Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It is located 9 miles east of Lee, 19 miles southeast of Pittsfield and 125 miles northeast of New York City. A short two and a half hour drive from the Throggs Neck Bridge. Historic towns like, Stockbridge, Lenox and Great Barrington are only thirty minutes away. Becket Woods is high and dry with elevations 1950 ft above sea level. Most of the property is gently sloped to fairly level, heavily wooded with no swamps. All roads are completed and upgraded yearly. Telephone and electric utilities are installed underground so there are no unsightly poles and wires on the roads. Becket is a charming and stable area with many farms and country homes. There are more than five golf courses, two of them public, within 14
miles of Becket Woods. Across the valley is October Mountain State Forest
with more than 15,000 acres of wilderness and is the largest forest in
Massachusetts. East Otis reservoir with state park facilities and a 1,065-acre
lake is right “down the road”. Ten ski areas are located
within 25 miles. Over thirty lakes and ponds offer great fishing. For
entertainment and culture, the Berkshires offer outstanding summer theatre,
music and dance productions. Tanglewood is within 14 miles and Jacob’s
Pillow Dance Festival is just two miles away. Dozens of art galleries
abound in the area. Words cannot describe the beauty of the property or the peace and contentment you can find here.
